Hi All -

My 15 month old son is tall I just want to make sure I'm using his RXT correctly.

He's rear facing. The way I understand the manual, there are two groups of strap slots. The lower group is for RF, and the upper group is for FF only. Also, I understand for RF, you should use the slot that is at or below the height of the shoulder. For FF, at or above shoulder height.

So I'm using the top slot in the lower grouping for his strap height.

But this is like 2'" below his shoulders. Which makes me feel like the straps don't stay on very good. I cinch it snug (cannot pinch the strap horizontally) and make sure the chest clip is at armpit level, but I still feel like it doesn't sit on his shoulders nicely because the slot is so far below is shoulders.

Is this ok?

Great question and good job looking for clarification! The manual wording can be confusing, can't it?!

Here is a link to a Diono Radian manual. If you check out page 35, it shows that only the top 3 harness positions may be used when forward facing, however they can also be used rearfacing so long as the child meets the other criteria like height/weight limit, one inch rule, etc.

Is there a harness position higher than the one you are using that would still be at or below his shoulder height? If so, I would move it up. We have a Radian as well in one vehicle and I have noticed there tends to be some awkward in between time when we aren't quite tall enough to move up to the next slot, but the current one seems too low. Usually after a few weeks it all seems to even out!

Hope that helps!
