Question Difficult to buckle booster in '05 Lexus 330

Our Lexus sedan has buckle stalks that are somewhat recessed into the seat. It is very difficult for me to get the seatbelt buckled, and impossible for my 6 yr old.

When you try to buckle, it pushes the buckle stalk further into the seat. There is no room to put anything under it/around the buckle stalk so that it more manageable.

We have FR85s that have been harnessed until now. The seat is fairly wide, so the buckle is right at the edge of the seat base.

We also have an odyssey and no problem buckling the seat there.

I saw a buckle biter one time, is this a proper use for it?

Yes, though it sounds like the noodle trick might work better. http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=237761

FWIW, my kids both found the FR difficult to buckle. It's got the high sides to reach over and as you said, it's wide, so consider it a temporary problem (perhaps years temporary, lol) until your 6 yr old is in a dedicated booster.

I just re-read my post and it wasn't very clear, but we just started using the FR85s in booster mode.

The challenge I'm running into is that there is not even any space to try the cool pool noodle trick. I wish there was! The buckle is recessed into the seat and I've tried to pull on it, but it doesn't come out enough.

Maybe it is the FR85 compounding the problem also. Which is a bummer b/c the seats are great boosters (at least in this car) and retract well.

Would the buckle biter be an option?

Nah, if the noodle trick wouldn't work, then the Buckle Biters wouldn't either because they're the same solution for the problem :(.

The only true solution for this would be to buy a different booster that doesn't have such high sides to it, unfortunately. Or, to buckle your child in yourself which is a bummer. I know when my kids moved to boosters, I wanted them to buckle themselves right away, lol.
