My husband and I are flying southwest next week with our 22 month old (RF in cosco scenara) and our 3 month old as a lap child. I know that's not a popular choice, but I'll be wearing him in a secure baby carrier- we have traveled with a lap child like that before without incident. I don't want to gate check our Chicco Keyfit 22- does anyone know if it will fit in the overhead compartment? thanks!

Hi and welcome. I have an infant seat allowed in the overhead bins on a flight that was pretty empty. I was just transporting the seat and not a child though or I would have used it on an unoccupied seat. I did have the separate the seat and base though. I have no idea if they would allow it on a normal basis. I would have it boxed securely and be prepared to gate check it just in case, or have a car seat waiting at your destination for her.

Just as a side note, a baby carrier may not be allowed on take off and landing, and in the event of an emergency landing they will have you take baby out and put her on the floor so that you can assume a braced position.

Probably not much you can change at only a week out from your flight, but something that may factor in next time you fly.

We have flown before on southwest & hawaiian air and I have always worn my oldest son through take off, landing, etc. I know the airline policies about carriers, but it hasn't been a problem on the 12+ flights we've taken so far. I am not one to put a price on my child's safety, but we didn't buy our youngest a seat because seats for the three of us alone ran over $1100, and we would have been separated which is less than ideal. Our oldest generally enjoys being in a carseat, but the baby hates it and would end up in my arms most of the flight anyway.
