best car seat for travel and 2nd car seat

hi all - traveling with my 17month old for the first time in may to mexico. looking for a good travel car seat - but since we don't intend on traveling too much hoping it can double as a car seat in grandma's car for occasional use. radian? coccoro? and what's the best way to lug it around the airport? my daughter hates to be strapped into anything so she'll likely want to be carried or walk thru the airport. ugh - not looking forward to traveling with my strong willed child!

The Radian could be a good option. You can wear it on your back folded up with the straps, and carry it through the airport like a backpack. It installs easily FF on airplanes but I would never attempt it RFing.

If this seat is for ocassional use I'd skip the Coccoro. It doesn't have a tall shell and won't last you very long unless you have a super small kiddo. It is my travel seat. However, I have small kids and I fly a lot.

Other ways to get your seat around the airport is a foldable luggage cart, which seems to be a favorite around here. Or, a strap to attach it to a carry on, like the Traveling Toddler.

Cheaper options that would work great are the Cosco Scenera or the Safety 1st OnSide Air. I'd be totally comfortable using one of these for grandma's car. They're also light weight and easy to travel with.
