Where should headrest hit ??

I was just curious...
My 9 yr old passes the 5 step test in the back row of our Expedition. The only thing is, it has no headrest. But the seat back isn't really 'low' either. The back goes up to his ears..mid to bottom of ears he seems to recall.
The middle row has the adjustable head rests, but the seats are deeper and he doesn't pass the 5 step test up there.

I'm almost positive the seat or headrest needs to be above the tops of his ears...otherwise, in a crash, his head is going to go backwards and cause injury to his neck.

Yep, just like kids in boosters or harnessed FF seats, there needs to be headrest or seatback at least up to the TOP of the ears. Everyone riding in a vehicle neads this type of head protection.

That's what I was thinking (holding to) but wasn't sure.
I just wanted to make sure I had the right info there.

My dh, as supportive as he is in this car seat safety stuff and as generous as he's been in allowing me to purchase all the Britax seats...I still have to remind of 'little' things like this. I want to be prepared when the time comes to replace my other seats and ds is still not passing the 5 step test in the middle row. "No, honey, he really cannot ride back there w/o a booster, the back is too low" :)
