DH helped make the decision!

Well, after posting last night about our SS, I had pretty much decided to wait and save our money and see what will be coming out next.

Well, we had lunch near BabiesRUs today and of course I ask if we can just go look at carseats (hoping the Complete Air might be at this one). They don't have it yet, so I started showing DH a few of the different options that I've considered. MyRide, Britax and I happened to show him the Triumph Advance Premiere. He LOVED the knobs and thinks every carseat should have them!! He is very good about tightening everytime, but when I mentioned the problem with the original TrueFit he immediately said that wouldn't work. Well, we played around with the seat and put our daughter in it and she looked really comfy! We decided we liked the Premiere because the latch connectors are the nice ones - DH could even see that!

Well, the BRU we were at had a big sign promoting a "trade in" of old baby gear and getting 20% off new gear. I asked the employee a few questions and found out our original SS1 that had been in an accident (I havent figured out how to dispose of it properly) would be fine for the trade in. Well, since our carseat was at home, we had him check the store near us and he said there were several Triumph Advance Premiere's at our store and they would also be on clearance. ($164 from original $180) Well, we got home, and I grabbed the old carseat and headed to BRU. They had no poster and no one seemed to know any thing about the program, so after 15 minutes of waiting, I left with my old carseat after being told the other store started the program too early and it doesn't start until Aug 1. So now I have to wait until then and hope they still have a few clearance seats left!!

So, am I correct that this is a good seat? My girl is a little peanut, so our plan is to use this until she reaches the RF limit (or our other seats are outgrown or expired) and then moved it to DH's car and then I get to pick a new great seat at that time!!

We could still wait and get something more expensive in a few months, but this seat looks pretty nice and will last a long time. And my DH is happy because he loves the knobs:)

Anything I should know about this seat or is that a good decision? $164 + 20% off and probably another 10% off if I open a card. So $120ish? for a $180 seat? is it worth it?

Thanks!!

The EFTA is a wonderful seat, I like it a lot. It will be great for a peanut too.

The only thing I was going to ask is, do you know what your BRUs are doing with the old seats people are trading in? If you don't know, would you mind perhaps calling and asking or letting me know which BRU it is so I can call and ask? I'm somewhat concerned that the seats could be used again without the history being known and would like to reassure myself as well as find out more about the program in general. Thanks!

Yes, I was a bit concerned about that as well. The employee I talked to said that I should call the manufacturer - they would want it back for research or something. I will definitely check it out before I turn it in - I probably should cut the harness straps and get out the permanent marker anyway!!

The BRU that had the program currently was the one in Columbus on Dublin/Granville Rd. The one near our house is Polaris on Gemini Parkway. Am I recalling correctly that you might be in Ohio?

I'm going to try to call the corporate office tomorrow to check when that program is supposed to going on (which store is incorrect?) and I'll try to ask them that question also.

Thanks!

I am in Columbus, I am familiar with both store locations and have done car seat checks at both of them! In fact I almost stopped in the dublin-granville store tonight on my way to Trader Joe's. Thanks, let me know what you find out and I will probably give them a call as well.

I have a EFTA for my DD (same size as yours) and we add the padding that comes with the Premiere model. We've been very happy with it so far, but it's not an everyday seat. I think it will work out well for you.

Katie,

I just wanted to let you know that I did call BRU at Sawmill and the lady I talked to said they are destroyed (sent back, I think she said). My husband actually did the purchase and he said the lady at customer service really didn't have any idea about the program.

I did cut the straps and latch straps and wrote all over the base and seat with permanent marker!! It should be pretty obvious that seat isn't to be used! It did seem like they were doing it as a safety event to get old baby gear out of use, so you would hope they dispose of them correctly!

We got the EFTA and I'm not completely in love with it - not sure what to do. (see my new post). Any chance you'd like to meet and help me play with my new seat once I decide what I'm going to get (unless we still decide to just wait and save more money - hmm. what to do??) Are you with SafeKids? I worked with Brandi (I think that was her name) to set up a seat check at the daycare I work at last fall. I'm so saddened by the seat misuse (or lack of use!) that I see there.

Thanks!

I asked why the one store had the program and the other didn't and she said that they were a pilot store. I'm guessing all the others will be starting their program tomorrow!! From what the poster showed, it was good on all kinds of baby gear - trading in and purchasing new!
