Question Two ?? on harness height versus top-of-shell height

I don't know if I am overanalyzing this or not:

1) When adjusting the harness height for a Britax Wizard, the top of the headrest shell adjusts up accordingly. The manual states "The child is too tall when the tops of the ears are above the top of the headrest or height exceeds 49 inches." I am assuming this is a position where the harness straps are at or above the shoulders, so at what point would the child's ears reach the top of the seat? Which do you defer to, the rule about the ears, or the rule about the harness height?

2) With the Keyfit 30 my daughter is not yet at 1 inch or less from the top of the seat, but is 31 inches. The manual states 30 as the max inches, which do I go by? Would you say she has outgrown it? I just recently moved the harness to the top slots, I had assumed (oops) that she hasn't outgrown the seat by height.

Thanks for any input!

In both situations, the height limit is just a guideline.

1. Your Britax seat is outgrown FF by height when the shoulders go above the top harness slot OR the hears go above the shell, whichever happens first. The seat is outgrown by weight when they hit the weight limit for that seat FF.

2. For the Keyfit, same deal. If there's more than an inch of hard shell above the head, you are fine. The rule for a RFing seat is that the seat is outgrown when there is less than 1 inch of hard shell above the head, or the RFing weight limit is outgrown for that seat. Sounds like your LO is just fine in the Keyfit for the time being (if there is more than 1 inch of shell).

Does that clear it up?

Let me clarify on question one. A Wizard is outgrown when

1. The shoulders are in the top most harness position

OR

2. When the ears reach the top of the SHELL of the seat

OR

3. When the weight limit of 65 lbs is reached

So if her shoulders are in the top most harness position, she's outgrown the seat, even if her ears are below the top of the shell and she weighs less than 65 lbs.
