Tightening britax tether problems?

Anyone have problems getting the tether nice and snug over the top of a plush captains chair? or a captains chair in general?
I got the tether installed today and played with the seat tonight and I had a hard time getting the tether really tight over the top of the chair. But I was able to get it over the top of the chair and stay there... though it was only because it was wedged there by the top of the husky because of how tight it was against the 'headrest'. Is that ok?

I haven't had a problem getting it adequately tight.

However, and maybe I am wrong about this, but I don't think the tether has to be as tight as the seatbelt or LATCH has to be for installation. My tethers are always tight, but not SUPER tight. The tether is definitely not as taut as the seatbelt or LATCH straps. Does that make sense?

The CPSTs who have checked my seats have told me that they are installed correctly. THey have never told me I need to have the tether tighter.

hmm, I have always tightened the tether as snug as I could and usually it ends up as tight as the seatbelt.

I forgot to mention that the issue I was having was it wasnt wanting to pull tight. It may be the tether on the husky, I had to pull it at a weird angle(straight up) to get it to tighten and I couldnt get it very snug.

I actually clip it, tighten it, take it off, tighten the strap a little more and then PUSH as hard as I can to get it cliped again. It doesn't move after that! LOL I did that with my Regent today. It still wasn't as tight as a seat belt install though and still wiggled more than I liked. That was on the rear bench of my van though. When I installed it in the captains chairs I could get it super tight and not have it budge. I took off the headrest though.

this one has non removable headrests... or really it has no headrests at all just a tall back. The whole seat is supper squishy.

Ah, I see the problem. I'd just squish the seat as much as you possibly can. I put all my weight on it when doing the tether or better yet, I'd be behind the seat doing the tether and have DH sit in it. Pretty easy to have DH sit in the Regent. LOL
