Is the Britax Companion safe?

We used it for DD (who's now 3) because we thought it was the safest choice at the time.

But what about the car seat test flaws that came to light several months ago? Where there was talk of infant seats flying off their bases?

Our second child is due in eight weeks, and I'm feeling stressed about what seat will be safest for him/her. We kept the Companion because we planned on using it with DC #2.

Thanks for any input--I am no expert on the subject of carseats.

The Companion, presuming you never washed the harness and the seat was never in an accident, is perfectly safe :)

Yes. It's safe.
It passed the government testing standards just fine, and as long as you install it correctly and fasten/tighten the harness properly, and put the handle down when driving, as the manual shows, everything should be fine. It was found to have exceeded some of the injury measurement criteria in a later, different, test, but there was no indication of failure that would prove they needed a recall on it (though some were recalled for some other issue, check www.britaxusa.com to make sure your model wasn't one of the affected ones). And just for grins, here it is performing really well in a side impact crash, that anti-rebound bar seems fairly impressive, IMO http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/staticfile...timedia/Associated Files/Britax_Companion.wmv

i personally don't think so, but its a personal opinion, my companion was very difficult to get it to lock in the base, and one day i found the metal hook that is inside the carseat that holds it to the base, laying in the base, so only one side was actually able to attach to the base, and this seat was only used for 4 months!! my best friend had a companion she had to send back after 3 months because it wouldn't attach to the base, they replaced hers with another companion, i refused a companion paid $125 and got a blvd cs, i feel like if they are having issues with the parts that attach the carseat to the base i do not want my baby in one, but that being said my friend and i both got our seats at target at about the same time, so maybe this issue was just a certain shipment or something, i don't know, but i told them there was no way i was putting my baby in another one, that i wanted a convertible:(

Ok, thanks everyone! :) Ours was not one of the recalled ones, and I don't remember ever having a problem with how it attached to the base. I feel better now--one more thing to check off the list before the baby comes!
