Re: Help me find 3 carseats for back seat

Wow, can't believe the internet has a forum specifically for car seats. I thought I'd found everything on the web.. :)

Anyway, I've got a follow-up to this thread with a new twist: I'm also in need of 3 seats fitting across a [big] car (Nissan Murano), for my daughter who will be 2 when our twins arrive. I'd like to know if anyone has good suggestions of convertible car seats (in other words, ones I can pop out of a base and drop into a stroller) that will fit in this kind of config? The middle seat is currently a Britax Decathlon, but I'm open to changing that if need be, too. They'll be in a rear-facing / front-facing / rear-facing setup.

thanks very much!

Hi Nick, and welcome. :) I moved your post to a brand-new thread, so hopefully it will get more responses.

So, just to see if I understand the situation, you have a 1yo daughter currently in a Britax Decathlon, in the center of a Nissan Murano (what year? that sometimes matters). You have twins on the way, and will need to fit three across. You're looking for two infant seats for the twins, I believe (not convertible seats). Infant-only seats are the only choice for installing with a separate base and being compatible with strollers. Convertible seats are the bigger models, like your daughter's Britax Decathlon, that convert from rear-facing to forward-facing.

Questions we'll have that may help figure out the situation:

How old is your daughter now, and how tall and heavy?
Is the Decathlon installed forward-facing or rear-facing?
Is the Decathlon installed with seatbelt or LATCH?
What is your budget?

I'm sure others will chime in with more questions and ideas, and hopefully some members familiar with the Murano will have some input. I will say that my favorite infant seats are the Chicco KeyFit and KeyFit30 and Graco SafeSeat1 or SnugRide 32. If your twins are likely to be premature or smallish, the KeyFit would be my first choice. I've also heard the Safety 1st OnBoard (available in both a 22 and 35 pound version) are good fits for preemies/small babies.

Hi,

another twin mom here too, i would suggest perhaps two Chicco Keyfits, but i would consider going to your local Babies R Us who will let you try them in your car, and making sure they fit well. I would also recommend consulting a CPST (Child Passenger Safety Technician) who can teach you about installation and proper use of your seats.
