Ok, so I've had a hard time finding info on installs in Subarus using seat belts. I have a 2000 Subaru Outback. I was recently PM'd by someone in a similar situation as mine and was also finding she was at a lack of info here so I thought I'd post a thread to help those in future when doing searches for installs in the older model Outbacks without Latch.
I hope you can find this helpful...
It's not all intensive but figured I'd post this instead of just replying back to her alone...
The questions pertain to a RF Radian or Marathon/Boulevard in an of the seating positions. (Look for the MA/BLVD thread too! hehe)
I tried this install multiple times and this is as upright as I could get it. It is outboard passenger side and the front seat is all but smooshed to the dash. This does include the top tether.
This includes 3 FULL buckle stock twists and though the latchplate is right AT the belt path it is a VERY tight install with no movement.
This is the only tethering spot I could find, I couldn't see where it would be able to work for a center install as the floor piece to the front seat is HUGE on the inside side and the d-ring will not fit all the way around.
It took 3 full twists for a center install also and had almost the same exact fit belt wise. I did notice it was MUCH easier to get a more upright install though!!
This is the other side for a center install, this belt style is the type that retracts into the ceiling fully when not in use.
You can see here just how much more upright I could get the install.
I was able to get a rock solid install using the ALR feature of the vehicles seat belts, the install was also not leaning. Every seat belt did take the full 3 twists and I did struggle with the latchplate getting caught on the lip of car seat when I'd start to tighten it.
This a Radian 65 with the older style boot, I think the newer one would give me a more upright install as it did when Judi and tested them side by side in my Honda Element.
I hope someone is able to find this helpful!
