Our main car is an 08 Odyssey and it's the only car we've been driving DS in, DH's car is an 03 Ford Taurus. Baby#2 is on the way so we're thinking there may be times we'll want/need to drive one (or both) of the kids in the other car so we're thinking about trading his car in for something with better safety features and just in general I tend to feel safer w/them in a bigger car (minivan or SUV) - I don't know if that's warranted or not but that's how I feel.
Anyway I guess our budget is less than $7000 or so, wanted closer to $5000 but doesn't look like a lot of choices in that range. Can anyone help me figure out what kind of safety features I might expect in older models, preferably minivans? When looking for our main car we wanted side curtain airbags and stability control - assuming these things wouldn't be available in older models.. Oh and we wanted the option to put one child in the middle seat in the middle row. So is there anything that I should look for or any ideas what makes/models and years might be particularly good to look for? Sorry to be so vague, we're kinda just starting to consider this.
