Small SUV w/ 4WD?

I'm thinking about trading my car in and buying something (used/preowned)with 4WD (need 4 High and 4 Low) maybe next year at tax time or the year after. I want to save/have enough to be able to just buy the vehicle, not finance (which is why I say possibly the year after). I'm obviously not buying soon, but I want to start doing some research so I know what to look for.

So what's a safe, small, affordable SUV with good 4WD? It also has to be decent with carseat installs (Nautilus and Marathon), but I'm not worried about 3-across or anything.

Here's my :twocents:... I LOVE Nissan's for pre-owned vehicles, since they are usually a bit less expensive than the Toyota or Honda options and are still very reliable. I just sold my '96 Pathfinder that I bought used in '99 and its still going strong (sold it to a friend). Now I am driving a '99 Infinity QX4 (a Pathfinder with more options) that I also bought used. Both have 4WD HI/LO and work fine in the snow. I think they might be considered 'mid-sized' but not TOO big. I've had no issues with car seat installs, infant seat and RF Marathon. (My DH has a used Altima and my dad bought a used Titan not long ago. We have been VERY happy with all the vehicles.) Good luck with your search!
