THis family is a low-income so cheapest would be best. she is about as tall as a five-year-old too. But mostly wide. As her adult sister tells me. I bought them a GN for her daughter would that work for her sister? I was thinking the Apex 65 but I know it needs a headrest. I am willg to help if i need too. Also the big sis tells me they bought something like the GN (could be GN, but don't know) but she doesn't fit what could that be? So she is in a booster.

I think a Regent would be the best but with cost being a factor I would get an Apex 65 and hope that she levels off in her weight. The Apex usually doesn't make a good booster (after the harness is outgrown) but it sometimes fits big kids well. You will have to cross that bridge when you get to it.

A GN may work also. How are they saying that the child doesn't fit? in the shoulder width? torso height?

Get a torso height if you can. Sit her against a wall and measure from her bottom to the shoulders. This measurement will help a tech give you the best recommendation.

When will she be 4?

Is there any reason for her weight? like steroids or medical issues that will keep her packing on the weight, or is there a good chance she won't gain 10 more pounds in a year?

If she will be 4 in the next 6 months or so, I'd probably get an Apex, then convert it to a booster when she outgrows it.

ETA: the wording in your post is confusing - is there a head rest or not?

Have you suggested that she apply to the Kyle David Miller Foundation for assistance? Seems like a 55-lb 3YO would fit their criteria of a child who needs a higher weight harness seat like a Britax Regent. (Not sure what the qualifications are these days - they may require that the child be on public assistance - but it's worth a shot.)

yes, that would be a time to recommend applying to KDMF.

otherwise, find out the headrest situation... if the Apex will work, it doesn't get much wider than that.
