I am considering buying a new Jeep and expecting a new baby as well. Does anyone know if this is a good car for a baby - safety, car seat placement, etc?

If the seats/headrests are the same as the 08 model there is only one problem that I know of: the outboard headrests do not work well with many larger/longer harnessing 5 point car seats. If you only have one child that can sit in the middle when they are FFing it's not a big deal, or even if you have 2 where they are not close in age- it would probably never be a big problem. There are seats that fit, and something can usually be worked out, but I wouldn't say that it allows you to be "flexible" by any means!

Yep, I've heard the headrests can be a major pain in the ___! But, I've never dealt with them in real life, so I can't say for certain. Good luck!

Yes, the headrests are a pain. They are fixed and there is no way to take them off or tilt them. We own a 2008 Grand Cherokee. DH is a salesman at a CDJ dealership and says the back seat headrests are "fixed" in the 09 model as well. Another thing to consider is that the center seat does not have latch connectors, only a combination lap/shoulder belt that does not lock off and has to be used with a locking clip. Some seats definitely don't work well with the newer Grand Cherokees, like a Cosco Scenera. We have used a SafeSeat1 for DD, but have a Radian 80 on the way, and DS is in a Graco Nautilus. The Nautilus has a great install with LATCH, but the SS1 was better with the seat belt. The vehicle itself is great, however, like most vehicles, you will run across certain car seats that you just can't get a good install with.

We have 2006 model and when DD was infant she was sitting in Snugride on the middle (installed with seat belt and locking plate). Now she is 2 and is still in the middle rear facing in her Boulevard (installed with latch and tethered). If needed she can sit RF behind passenger seat and I still have enough leg room for myself in front. The seat probably can only fit in the centre when FF, but for us it is not a issue as I prefer her to sit there anyway.

If you are planning to get another child soon after your first you might run into problems when older child can not rearface anymore (3 years?).

Do you have LATCH in the center or are you borrowing the outboard ones? Make sure that's allowed cuz it sounds like it's not, based on what a PP said.

According to the car's manual they can be used :) but as Snugrides manual did not allow it (or mention I don't remember anymore) we used the seat belt to install.
