Just Pondering..SIP

Which do you think offers better SIP...MA or TF? I've got DS outboard in a TF right now, and DD1(5) in the center in the MA, but I'd like to put DS into the MA for right now (for getting at the harness adjuster and because I want to use the cowmoo and allstar covers on it for him:eek:), but am not sure that I like it as much for SIP as the TF. I know that the most protected child should go outboard, and that would be DS (because he's RF), but would a 5yo in a TF be equally protected? Would a 5yo be better off in a TF anyhow? She sits really high up "on" the MA, rather than "in" the seat, if that makes sense. If so, I could put DS in the center and not worry about SIP so much. Or should I throw DD2(3) in the MA in the center and just forget about it?

This isn't a crucial question, just the ponderings of a restless momma who wants to use her new covers:D, so throw any thoughts my way!

Just guessing by looking at babies in both seats from a side view, the True Fit's seat shell seems to cradle more around the child, and seems to offer more SIP. I've said in the past that kids in the True Fit really seem like they're sitting in the seat, cradled and cocooned; kids in the Marathon seem to be sort of perched on the seat. :twocents: I don't hate the MA at all; I think it's a really nice seat. :) I've just never liked seats that sit up high on bases, for one--and the TF's roominess + deep wings have me sold.

I think the TF is better for the FF child because it sits lower! :twocents:

Better, meaning, easier to climb into, definitely. That was just one deciding factor that pushed me toward a Husky instead of a Marathon when dd was 2 and almost too tall for her Alpha Omega. We'd already been using the AO without the base because it was easier to install and less bulky in my 1991 Honda Accord, but we soon discovered it was much easier for her to climb into when it sat flush with the vehicle seat. Now I tend to gravitate toward seats with no bases for that reason. However, I've heard others say (not recently) that the child sitting up higher in the car is better/safer because most impacts happen at bumper height.

Really? I had never thought about it that way, but it does may sense. I was just thinking seats that sit lower have lower head excursion numbers when FF. Am I wrong?
