Unless they are Britax seats, then YES, they do need to be replaced per the manufacterer's instructions. However, until you do replace them you should continue using them because it is safer than no seat at all. I would suggest limiting travel until they are replaced to essential trips only, and whever possible run essential errands (like grocery shopping) to when your dh can be home with the children.
If they are Britax seats, it depends on the type of crash and I would suggest you call Britax and ask them if your dh's crash meets their guidelines for not replacing the seats.
