Peg Perego in Subaru Forester

Okay, I'm going to go to a technician this week, but I'm looking for your experience/guidance:

We have a peg perego primo viaggio and a subaru forester.

We want the seat installed in the middle. I do NOT like the idea of side impact risks on the sides. In addition, my husband and I are extremely long legged (6' and above) and the seat doesn't fit even when the passenger side seat is as far forward as I can comfortably put it (and I'm not being a weenie, I mean so that my knees are not up against the dash).

The Subaru manual says it doesn't recommend center installation. It doesn't forbid against it, but it recommends side install.

Suggestions?

Hey, I know you!

I'm "Maribelle" ;)

The only infant seat I've fit in a Subaru was an Evenflo & it was a 1993 Legacy & my LATCH manual hasn't yet arrived ... what year Forester do you have  I hope others here can be of more help!

Also, Safe Ride News says Subaru does allow for the seatbelt buckle stalks to be twisted up to 3 full turns now if that might help

GOOD LUCK

The reason Subaru doesn't recommend a center installation is because it is very difficult to do correctly. The space between the buckle and the belt anchor is very narrow. The space is so narrow you, many times, CAN'T get a good install in the center. A rear facing child in an infant seat is well protected. I'd much rather have a good install on the outboard sides than a poor install in the center.

Hopefully, the tech will be able to help you, but you should remember that, not just with Subarus, not every seating position is appropriate for carseats. There are many compatibility issues. No matter how much you want it there, you may (with the technician's help) have to accept that it won't install properly there.

Thanks!

Thanks, ladies! Maribelle, it's a 2005... I got it installed on the side behind the passenger seat, but it's a tough fit still even with the front seat adjusted for me (the shorter of the two of us).

I already mentioned this at the other site ... but just wanted to remind anyone reading that there must be at least 10-12" between the airbag location & passenger/driver ... pregnant mamas & their babies are safest sitting in the back or at least with the front passenger seat moved all the way back :)

Thanks for making me feel better! We tried both the Peg Perego Viaggo and a Graco model in my 98 Outback with no success! There is a plastic panel on the center seatback that really seemed in the way. Just couldn't get a really nice fit outboard either. I honestly don't remember seeing that Subaru recommends against center in my book, but then that book wasn't very helpfull. We ended up skipping right to the convertible (boulevard) with an OK fit outboard. Will have a tech fix a few remaining problems... I hope! Or I'm out to buy a "new" car, what a nightmare! I really thought a car that looked so "married with 2.5 kids" would be carseat friendly. Ha!

I had a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX and it was easy as pie to install a SnugRide in the center with the lap/shoulder belt. The owner's manual was very helpful in regards to child restraint information. Maybe it just depends on the Subaru model and year. I have a friend who just bought an 2006 Outback and was able to get great installs in the rear-outboard seats both with LATCH and the l/s belts. One seat is an MA and the other is a Husky. I still miss my Subaru - it was a nice sedan, but also a fun sports car! :p
