Evenflo Titan 5, 2006 model questions

I'm asking a few questions for a friend. She was given 2 Evenflo Titan 5, manufactured 2006 and there are no instructions. The Evenflo office is closed now so I said I would ask you guys!!! Was told no accidents

1) it has 4 harness slots, can any be used rear facing or only the bottom 2??---The child is too tall for the second slots so is it safe to use the second from the top slots for rear facing?

2) Are these generally easy to install with a seatbelt? For some reason there is no LATCH on the carseat but there is a tether.

3) Does anyone know of any recalls on this seat?

Thanks for any help!!!

It should have come with a UAS belt, so that means that the seats are missing a part. Not a dangerous part to be missing (assuming the seat installs well with the seatbelt,) but missing parts does open up the question as to if anything else is missing and/or damaged. The UAS belt is required by CMVSS standards to come attached to the seat, so they had to physically remove the belt via removing it from the connector strap or removing the connector strap itself if it's gone. Which means the seat has been purposefully altered - which raises the concern if any other changes were made...

Do they have the choice of different seats to use until the manuals are available? I can tell you that the top most position is not allowed for use rf'ing, and that there must be 1" of hard shell above the head when rf'ing.

Speaking honestly, given that we know at the very least the UAS strap was removed & the instructions are missing, I'd be inclined to at the bare minimum delay use of the seat until the instructions are in hand, and a tech can go over the seat to be sure no other parts are missing & advise as to if they would recommend using the seat. I'd want to know history of care - how were the straps cared for most importantly...

The UAS in and of itself missing isn't a danger, but it means the seat is missing parts which in turn means that it doesn't meet the used seat checklist. Given that the Titan is outgrown early anyways and that they will definitely have to replace the seats in the not distant future, I'd recommend replacing them now just to be on the safe side.

Is the seat safe? Maybe. Would I recommend it's use with what I know at present? No.

Thanks for the info!!! I told her she shouldn't use them because she is unsure of the history. That is so strange they took off the latch but why?? Wierd!! I actually saw the seats and they looked 6-7 years old because they were so dirty, they really are only 2 years old!!!! I saw the DOM myself!!! She is way better off not using them.

Thanks for the quick response
