Anyone else think this is Graco code for "we're dumping the U.S. SS1 stock we have left in Canada?" Like they'll re-sticker U.S. ones and sell them here?
Or is my rampant cynicism showing?
If I had to guess, I'd say that shells already made will just be given CMVSS stickers from the start - most manufacturers make shells in batches and then assemble the seat. I'd imagine the stickers go on some way midpoint for a lot of seats. So I don't think it will be replacing stickers on the US seats, I think it's more likely that we'll get shells already made, and that Canada may have a higher stockpile in warehouse than US does.
It could also be a matter of changeover of production in the US, whilst completing the CMVSS certification process. Better to continue selling the SS1 while certifying the snugride 32. The emphasis has likely been on getting the seat released in the US ASAP...
So no, I don't think they'll relabel already existing seats. But I do think that the remnant supplies may go in to assembling CDN seats, or else we just have a high # of seats in the warehouse still. I know when I bought ds's SS1 it was pretty much 6months old already. So if that's typical, then it will take time for the warehouse to empty. That's part of what the hold up was with the Nautilus from what somebody posted once - too many turbo boosters & cargos waiting to be sold in Canada. I think there's much less of a "rush" to get a new seat to market if you want old stock used up first... and by waiting they recover some of the development costs in the US market prior to shelling out the money to complete the CMVSS certification process.
