Question twisting the buckle stalk

My Blvd is RF in the center seat. I have a 2001 Mazda 626, no LATCH. The center seat has a lap/shoulder belt. The lap belt is secured to the seat with a second buckle stalk (slightly different than a regular buckle, you haver to use a hair pin to disconnect it.) I know that you can twist the buckle stalk up to three times, but can I twist both sides. Sorry it sounds so confusing DH has the car or I'd get pics of what I'm talking about.

I think the rule is that you can twist one or both, but the maximum total number of twists can only be 3 for both combined. Hopefully one of the techs will be along to let you know for sure.

That's what my understanding was, but the last time we discussed this, the general consensus seemed to be that each side could be twisted three times (for a total of six).
