Need purchase advice of "extra" car seat for toddler

I upgraded this year from a Graco ComfortSport to a Britax Boulevard, and love it. My 2 year old sits in this and I planned on getting him into a different seat when our baby, due in August, outgrows his/her infant seat.

In the meantime, Grandma wants a seat to put in her car to transport the toddler on a weekly basis--let's say 1x per week, but, it would be good also for her to have a seat in her car for emergencies.

Option 1: Make due and switcheroo the Britax Boulevard seat from my car to Grandma's car whenever she is going to take the toddler out.

Option 2: purchase a new seat for Grandmas car
2A: should it be a lower-cost seat, maybe a Cosco??
2B: should it be a higher end seat such as one that could work for a 2 year old now but also goes up to a higher weight limit... the seat I would have waited to buy until later such as the Britax Regent that goes up to 80 pounds?

THANK YOU!!

You will get better answers if you tell your child's weight and how far he is away from which harness slot you are using on the BV. The Regent is a GREAT seat, but if $ is an issue, and your child is on the small side, something cheap (but with a 40 lb limit :() that always gets recommended is the Cosco Scenera, I've had one for about 4 months and it's decent.

It might be more cost effective long term (& safer) to buy the Regent for Grandma's car -- that's what we did  Then I felt like I wasn't spending "extra" $ since I would definitely use it as her primary seat in my vehicle eventually anyway....

However, you might want to get the OK fram Grandma & assurance that she's not going to try to uninstall/reinstall it -- because it is heavy & can be tricky for many of us until we're used to it, especially someone who's not used to using carseats (it quickly became the easiest seat for me, though & I've heard the same from other Husky/Regent owners!)

Otherwise, I think the Cosco Scenera would be a fine spare seat choice for Grandma to keep -- RF until 35#, FF to 40# then backless booster to 100# ... or the least expenisve good option is the Cosco Scenera :)
