Graco SafeSeat 1 Handle position

I installed the SafeSeat for a friend today and it was rock solid and level. :) I was trying to figure out the handle position that is ok for driving. Is the upright A position which states it's for carrying ok for driving with that seat? I saw B & C were not ok, but it seemed a bit ambiguous on position A in that I don't think it specifically said not to use it while driving. I thought there were a few seats that allow the handle to be up, but I want to make sure!

Thanks!

Are you sure it was a Safe Seat and not a Snugride?

For the SS1, only position B cannot be used in the vehicle (that's the weird, not quite up, not quite down one); A, C and D are okay. It's different from the Snugride, which doesn't allow position B or C, only A, D and E.

I'm absolutely sure it was a SS1. I recommended it to them and I double checked before installing it. It was the eclipse pattern. Thanks for your help, I haven't been installing infant seats for a while.

Any position except B can be used in the vehicle with the SS1. Although you're correct that it's a little confusing. All the manual says is "NEVER use position B in the vehicle" but never says that A, C and D are okay. :)

That is why I asked. I figured since it didn't say that they were ok, but I would hate to assume that and tell my friend to use it that way. The install was SO easy! I had tried earlier in the week to install a Baby Trend flex loc in their car and it was not a good match for their car. They also decided they didn't like the way the harness buckle was (matching up the 2 pieces) so I recommended the SS1 as it would last much longer as well.

I know a lot of people are confused about the handle position, why doesn't Graco just say which positions are OK for driving, would be much easier. I questioned it myself too:)
