Yes, I did. While I couldn't buy the best of the best, safety ratings were definately a huge factor in narrowing down my choices.

We do, too. Obviously other people do. Otherwise, the car commercials wouldn't say, "IIHS 'Best Pick'!" or "Five-star Safety Rating."

I try too but some of the times it can be hard when there are certain vehicles your interested in haven't been tested.

For example we are getting a new vehicle here in the next few months. The last time I looked neither IIHS or NHTSA have tested the new Pontiac G8. This is pretty much the only vehicle dh is even considering. So, I will do my best to make sure that they vehicle has all the safety requirements that it needs (side curtain airbags, some type of stabilitrac, etc...).

Hey does anyone know what AUS crash testing standards are compared to the US?

It's a factor, but the cars I'm looking at aren't always tested. Then, I just go by general reputation of the car company. Can't really go wrong with any Honda or Toyota.

i don't know about AUS, but the EU standard (euroNCAP) is similar to the IIHS for offset frontal and side impact (in addition to side impact, they do a pole impact test), and perhaps even a little more demanding. if a car does well in euroNCAP, it usually does well in US testing as well. when we were shopping for our mazda3, the US version wasn't tested with SAB/SAC, but the european version was and got high marks. so we went on that info. also, the mazda5 isn't tested at all here, but in euro tests gets awesome marks.
