A friend has asked me if she can use her old SnugRide base (2004) that came with a 20 lb limit SnugRide with her new SnugRide that has a 22 lb limit? I'm still a new tech and I'm not sure what to tell her.

Hmm, I wasn't aware of a 20lb Snugride ever being made, well atleast not in 2004. My 2003 Snugride was a 22lb weight limit. It should be the same base and will fit if it is. The base though will expire just as the seats do after being exposed to heat and cold for so long. Maybe a tech can correct me if I am wrong, but if she uses it now then it won't need to be discarded until Dec. of 2010, unless it is stamped other wise on the bottom or the DOM tag.

My July 04 SR was a 20 lb one. I've seen the pics from your 2003. Are you sure it was 22? I thought that gray/yellow/bear style was 20.

OP, I'm not sure if the bases changed when they went to 22 lb/29" from 20/26. I would call Graco.

edit: here's a post with info from Graco saying you can use the old base, but have to follow the lower weight limit. I'd probably still call.

I think it was either late 2004 or in early 2005 when the Snugrides with 22 lbs. weight limits became available. I remember it because I was pregnant with DD2 during that time frame, and contemplating which infant seat to get for her. :)

that's what I'm thinking too. Ds was late 04 with a 20 lb one (July DOM, but I don't think 22 was an option when I was shopping that fall). My neighbor had twins the next spring and had 22 lb ones.

It was late spring/early summer of '05 when Graco made the switch to the 22lb Snugride. I remember it because I had just become a tech late winter/early spring of '05 and I remember that being the 1st big change as a new tech.
