It's time turn him around?

My DS is 32.4 lbs (4 tenths not ounces) as of yesterday at the Dr. and will be 38 months on the 16th. We have a Britax Decathalon. (RF to 33lbs.) I am almost certian he needs to be turned now. I am not sure how much closer we could get unless I feed him a meal before we weigh him again! LOL So should I go ahead and turn him around or is it really better to keep him going RF for those last few ounces?

If that is his weight naked, then you are already over the limit. He needs to be less than 33lbs at all times in the seat (fully clothed and fed.) I'd turn him.

You can keep him rear-facing until he is 33 lbs exactly. I would weigh him often, however so he doesn't go over the limit. Honestly, we have to believe that the seat isn't going to magically fail when he gets 1 oz over the limit, but we also don't want to push the weight since we don't know *when* it may fail.

Personally, I would go ahead and turn him. He's over 3 years old and really close to the limit. If he gets sick and loses a pound or so you could always turn him back around!

That is his weight dressed but with only a snack. So I think it would be VERY easy to go a few ounces over.

This is exactly what I was thinking and why I had the delima! You said it perfectly!

Thanks for the advice for if he gets sick. That is a good idea just in case. I guess we will be turning him FF. I am not sure if I want to cry or celebrate!;)

I'm actually jealous you made it that far. I weighed my son (27 months) this weekend and he was 33# (the day after a picnic that he pigged out at ). I'm going to be turning him this week and I'm soooo sad :(

i know a lot of people like to "push the envelope" and extract every last 0.0000000000001 ounce out of their RFing seats, but i have to say i really don't like the idea of weighing kids daily, or even weekly... even if it is just a fun game to them, it can have an influence on them in terms of thinking of weight as something that's important. you don't want to install the belief that weight is important... even though the reason we're doing it has nothing to do with self image and everything to do with safety, it can contribute to self image problems later down the road. :twocents:
