Hugs ok in RF Diplomat?

I meant to ask if it was ok to use Hugs RF in the Diplomat as well as FF, but now I realize it didn't even come with Hugs. Why doesn't it when the other seats require them FF?

Those aren't HUGS (HUGS are the large rubber things on the BV harness), they are comfort pads. You can use them or take them off no matter what direction the seat is facing. :)

I don't see them in your siggy pic. But yes, they are totally optional RF, and you can definitely remove them if you want.

Ahhh Jools, I see what she means now. Do the smaller Britax convertibles even have HUGS? I know my RA doesn't, but does the Diplo?

I edited my post when I realized my siggy pic now is of her in the Diplomat, no Hugs, vs. her in the Blvd. with Hugs. Now I realize the Diplomat doesn't even come w/ hugs and am wondering why, when the other seats require them FF. ??

The RA doesn't have HUGS either. The HUGS are required for FF, it has something to do with spreading out the crash forces when the kids are heavier. Since the RA & Diplo only go to 40 pounds, it's not necessary ;)

Britax includes rubber HUGS on their high weight harnessed (HWH) seats that harness above 40 lbs., not on seats like the Roundabout or Diplomat with 40 lbs. FF weight limits. From what I've gleaned from hanging out here on the forum, the HUGS serve to reduce head excursion and properly distribute crash forces on the HWH FF Britax seats. :)

Only the seats with limits above 40lbs come with HUGS. Apparently the first high weight harness seat Britax made didn't initially pass standards , and the HUGS were the fix to get it to pass. They sold them as a safety feature at the time though, and now all of their HWH seats come with them. As to if the current seats meet safety standards without them now when the seat is ff'ing, it's speculated yes, but that's the back story anyways.

For Britax convertibles that come with HUGS, they are optional rf'ing and mandatory ff'ing. The Regent they're mandatory at all times, and I'm assuming they will be on the Frontier as well since both are only ff'ing seats. ;)
