Frank and I are heading on a road trip in just over a week! I am very excited about it, but a little nervous. We will be driving the Car Seat Check Up van to Anchorage and then staying in Anchorage for a few weeks to see our friends. We have a 3 hour ferry trip then a 800 mile drive thru some very cold weather and snowy roads. Unfortunately Frank has to be forward facing for the trip, the van only has the drivers seat and the front passengers seat (the back is the cargo version, and it's full with the seat check event stuff). There is a passenger airbag, and no off switch, so we have to do it this way. I wish Jeramy could go with us, but he can't get that much time off of work and there aren't enough seats for all of us. He will fly up to Anchorage a few days before Thanksgiving to meet us, then we will all fly back here to Juneau together. I can't wait to actually be able to go shopping again in a real store!! I may pick up a new seat for Frank while we are there if I can find one, that way I don't have to pay shipping (shipping is soooo expensive for things here). I really hope I can find the Tribecca Decathalon, I think that fabric will go really well with our car, lol!
Yesterday I did my first seat checks after going thru the class with another gal who has been a tech for quite a while. In 3 hours we checked 14 seats at one house! It was an in-home daycare with a 12 passenger van, but the problem was the number of kids in booster seats and the number of lap/shoulder belts, but we figured it out. We also checked a few of the parents cars when they came to pick up the kids. I was totally exhaused when I got home! Talk about trial by fire, lol!
