Flying, need help with car seat

My sister-in-law is flying to Florida in May and she needs to know which car seat she should get for my 3 year old Nephew. She needs a new car seat for him because he is 40 pounds and the car seat she has only goes to 40 pounds and then it turns into a booster. He is not ready for a booster and she knows that so what higher weight seat other than a Radian can go on a plane? Thanks

The Graco Nautilus is probably what I would recommend. Others have already used it on the plane and it fit fine (though it is heavy). It has tall harnesses straps and then converts to a booster so it will last a child a while. It also is good that it isn't as expensive as most of the other seats choices.

The only issue I see with the Nautilus vs the Radian on the plane is the snack tray: the Nautilus is probably going to sit high enough off the seat to prevent the tray from being able to be used. If her son doesn't mind, then don't worry about it. But ours did (in his Marathon) and complained bitterly the entire time that his tray didn't work, he couldn't color, he couldn't put his food on it, etc. We then traveled with a Radian and the tray worked great... Just might be something to consider. :)

Thanks, I saw the Nautilus at our local wal-mart and I told her she should buy it. I wasn't sure if it was faa approved. I think that is a great idea. I will suggest that to her.
