Change from a Shield to a 5 Pt?

Is it possible?
My carseat has all the 5 Pt harness holes but it has the shield at the moment.
They also sell the same shield seat as a 5 Pt that's why it has all the proper holes to thread the harness thru.
Where, if possible can I purchase the harness part?
Can I get the parts thru a Walmart or Babies R Us?
I haven't had any problems with the car seat nor has it been in any accidents. I would like to keep it and make it into a 5 Pt.
Thanks

I would call the manufactor to see if its possible. But, I am going to say its probably not. I think the shield is permently mounted to the shell itself so I don't think they would be able to come off.

I hope another tech might be able to give more info on this then I can. But your best bet is to call the car seat manufactor.

You would have to get parts and approval from the manufacturer, and I very much doubt they would allow that kind of modification (I know, I know, all the parts are there and it shouldn't be a big deal, but they have a LOT of liability on the line for this sort of thing, and really don't want to risk it).

What age and weight child is this for? Perhaps we can recommend a safe, inexpensive 5-pt option that fits...

I'd say no. Making any modifications to your seat voids your warranty and the manufacturer can't stand by a product when they don't know if the modifications were done correctly.

I'd call the company and see if they'd let you swap your seat in. We were able to do this back in '99 with Evenflo when we called in and compalined that we didn't like the OHS seat. The nearly identical 5 point seat wasn't much better though...
