RF tethering...pros and cons?

Seems I read there was a bit of a controversy over the benefits of tethering rear facing seats. Can anyone point me to some info on this, or summarize it for me?

We currently have a 2yo rf in a tethered seat, and I'm trying to decide how high a priority to place on the tethering ability of the seat we buy for our baby.

I don't believe there's any injury data from real life to support it being highly necessary (well...maybe there is...Sweden top tethers RF and they have *by far* the lowest rate of child head/spinal injury), but I find it preferable for larger kids who could fly with more force towards the side or back of the car in a bad crash (I didn't worry about my infant seats not tethering RF at all, though, and happily used the SS1 till dd was about 18 months old)
