Evenflo shield car seats

What are your thoughts on these, when did they stop selling them and when did the limited lifespan begin?

A member on NZ auction site has one that is a 98 and they want $120 NZ for it. Was the 6 year limit in them or would it be a 10 year? Either way it has a maximum of 11 months life left.

The member is being rather strict about it.
She says that as my site applies to seats sold in Nz it does not apply to seats imported from USA and sold in NZ. (Go Figure!) :)

Oh, yes, how silly of you to forget that transporting a carseat from one country to another increases its life span!

Yes well some people ha!

I thought you would be the first to reply to this post! :)
We had a huge debate with the importer for Evenflo here as the lifespan expiry date stamps were being "re-stamped" and the importer told me that the lifespans did not apply in NZ but Evenflo said:
Q: "Does the lifespan limits set in the US apply to international countries also?"
A: "Yes. The same general rules apply as far as lifespan."

When did they stop making them? ~ OHS car seats are still on the market. They are usually difficult to find. Dorel/Safety 1st/Cosco all one company still make OHS models.
Why did they stop making them? ~ Most companies stopped making them due to the fact 5 pt harnesses are safer. OHS are dangerous. There have been documented cases of children receiving fatal injuries (head and abdomen) from the shield.

I have a OHS Evenflo Tribute DOB 6/06 I bought it b/c it was $40 at a local close-out store. I bought it before I found out about the dangers of shield carseats. I recommend reading the information on cpsafety.com about them.
We don't use this seat. It is for extreme emergencies only and sits in our home.

Yeah Evenflo Tributes with shields are still on the market. carseat.org mistakenly says they aren't (unless they were all made in 2006 and are still on shelves..), but they are brand new.. :( (the dorel 'versa fits' aren't *that* bad, the shield really adjusts much closer and lower, but I still wish they'd knock off making them :p)
