Car Seats on plane

Any recommendations on what car seat (if any) to use on a plane for my 4 yr old. (30-31 lbs. 42 in. 16 in. torso)

And what about a 7 yr old that is normally in a belt positioning booster? Just the seat belt on the plane?

I would like to get Radians for my kids since they work well in planes, but I am a bit nervous about the installation issues.

What seat does your 4 yaer old use right now? Most likely it will fit on the plane (as long as it isn't the britax regent). It would be much better to take it on the plane then risk it being broken or lost which the checked bags.

For your 7 year old, does he use a highback or no-back booster? If it is a no-back booster, you should be able to put it in your carry-on luggage. If it is a highback, see if it is one that seperates into two pieces and see if you can get it into your carry-on luggage. If that doesn't work, you can always check the booster. The main thing is you don't want to be left at the airport with no booster for your oldest and if it is lost, it is better to have a no-back portion of the booster then no booster at all (at least until the airport reunites you with your luggage).

She's in a regent.

I would often say that a 4 year old might be able to use the booster at your destination (as long as they are mature enough to stay seated properly), but you indicated she was only 30 pounds which really is too light for booster usage. I know the manufacturers allow a 30 pound 3 year old to use a booster, but it really isn't best practice as 3 and 4 year olds are really not big enough to sit correctly and risk sliding below the seatbelt in an accident or causing internal injuries to their abdomin from the seatbelt in an accident.

Since you can't really bring the regent with you on the plane, what about picking up a cosco apex 65 (or the safety first biltmore as it is sometimes called which is on sale at albeebaby). It is a pretty good harnessed seat, will work on the plane, and should work at your destination, provided that the car you are using at your destination has high back seats or headrests.

If you think you might be doing a lot of traveling, it might be worth it to pick up a radian for travel purposes.

We have had a pretty easy time using a Graco Cargo on a plane. The only issue was that the seatbelt buckle stuck out a little in the back and caused a bump in the padding. It didn't seem to bother dd though.

My dd is also 4 and only 30 lbs. She's on the top slots of her Cargo, and I was considering an Apex, but I don't think it's any taller, and weight is not an issue. But, they're about the same price I think, and the Apex makes a better booster, so it might make sense for the future.
