Can you be too tall for a backless booster?

Can a kid be too tall to have a proper shoulder fit in a backless booster? For Ex--in a captains chair if the kid in the booster puts their shoulder height above the seatback (not headrest), but no booster would give them a bad fit on the abdomen.

It depends on the vehicle and the height limit on the booster you are using. Most backless boosters have a shoulder clip to help with shoulder belt fit. If you have a particular situation you are trying to find a solution for, let us know what vehicle it is in and the height, weight, and age of the child in question. We should be able to steer you in a helpful direction!

OP here. Clek oobr backless. Sienna. Just 4ft10in. 80 #. Seat is often shared and used when I don't have a full car as it's the closest to the door. Other child (4'8') still needs the booster for good belt fit.

Yes, a booster can lift a child up too high for the shoulder belt - however, from the way you've phrased this it isn't clear if that is happening in your situation. If it is, perhaps try the Safety 1st Incognito, as it won't raise your kid up as much as just about anything else.

OP here. Sienna. a petite 4'10". The seat is often shared depending how many kids are in the car because they don;t want to climb to the 3rd row. Seat is often shared with a younger rider who definitely needs the. booster. Right now it's a backless Oobr in that seating position. If I switch to an igcognito the belt doesn't quite hit the younger kiddo on the shoulder.

This might be a case where the smaller child might just have to climb back to the third row all the time. The incognito should give the older child a better fit until the lap portion fits better.

Think of it this way, in a few months, the oldest might not need a booster at all and the younger child will have to climb to the back because there won’t be a booster there anymore. You’re just moving it up a bit.
