we recently purchased a Prius Compact car to save on gas. My son is 3yrs old 37lbs and 40 1/2 inches tall. Looking for a "narrower" option then his convertible seat. Budget friendly (under $80)! combination or highback booster. thanks for any advice :)

Coming out of hiding to lend my two cents.

Although the MyFit is a great narrow seat, it's well outside the $80 dollar upper budget.

Working within that budget, I'd say the best bets are the Evenflo Maestro (usually around $70-80) and the Cosco Finale (around $40-60 dollars). The Maestro harnesses to 50lbs and has approx 18" top slots, the Finale to 65lbs and has approx 17" top slots. Currently Target has the Maestro for about $72 dollars online, and they have the version (Performance?) that has strap covers. Target also has Finale DX (with the slightly nicer, solid color covers) for $54. Walmart has the basic Finale for $45-50 depending on the cover, though they appear to be sold out of a lot of the designs. Neither will be much use as a booster (they are outgrown in booster mode not long after outgrowing the harness), but a dedicated booster doesn't cost much down the line.

If you are able to stretch your budget a little, Walmart has the Harmony Defender for $90 and you can get the Graco Wayz (Walmart)/Tranzitions (Target) for $100. Both have approx 18" top slots and harness to 65lbs.

If by "highback booster" you meant a belt positioning booster, without a harness - at three years old, your son is not old enough. A belt positioning booster requires the maturity to stay seated properly, which most children don't have until closer to five or older, four at a minimum.
