California Booster Seat requirements

Hi, I have not been on this forum in a long time. I was wondering how long kids have to stay in booster seats in California. My son is 9 and a half years old and is 4'2" tall. I'm not sure how much he weighs as I don't own a scale, although I think I should buy one for him to use. Anyway I was just wondering how long he should be in his booster seat. I'm not in any rush to get him out of it at all, but I was just wondering what the California law is. He rides in the Graco Affix backless booster seat. I cannot find anything about it online. I can only find out how long kids are supposed to stay in 5 point harness car seats or in infant carseats. I can't seem to find any definite answers about height and weight and age limit for backless booster seats. Some say this, while others say that. It's very confusing. I want to make sure he's safe.

Welcome back! This blog post explains the 5 Step Test, which is the best way to determine when a child is ready to ride in a vehicle without a booster seat. Since all children and (vehicle seats) come in all types of shapes and sizes, this is a more accurate assessment tool than age/height/weight. Some kids can ride in some vehicles without a booster while still needing one in others.

Thank you, but I just want to know what California's height and weight requirements are. He's still in a booster seat and I'm sure he will be for a while, and that's fine by me. He's rather small for his age.
