HB Booster and non-removable headrests

My mom just got a new car and cannot remove the headrests in the back row. We have a Maxi Cosi Rodifix and a Chicco Kidfit (currently in high back mode) for my 7 and 10 year old girls. The problem is mainly with the Rodifix - the headrest does not allow it to sit flush against the seat. The gap is about 2.5 inches at its widest point. The Chicco seems a little less pronounced (maybe because it's higher?). Is this acceptable? Or do we need to find a way to remove the headrests? Or get a new car? I know we could remove the back, but my girls are tiny and I really prefer not to do that. Our other alternative would be to give my mom 2 Kidfits (we have 3 of each for our various cars). But I'm not sure that fit is acceptable either. Thanks!

I have this question also! I really want to keep the HBB for my 7 year old but the headrests keep it from sitting flush. Responding to bump your post and hopefully get some feedback from others :)

Thanks! I think my mom is going to see if they can remove the headrests. Apparently there is a clip that they can remove. They were all very surprised that the headrests were not removable:rolleyes: - apparently it's the only car they sell like that (or so they say)!

So I did a search and it seems that the Clek Oobr allows a gap between the seat and the booster, I think it's only when using LATCH connectors in the highback position thought, so your vehicle would have to have LATCH. Just something to think about in case you decide to get different boosters. If a Tech could confirm this that would be great! http://clekinc.com/pdfs/oobr_Owners_Manual_US_EN.pdf

I think I saw that somewhere too. We do use latch but I'm not super interested in buying more (expensive) boosters. We already have 3 Rodifix and 3 Kidfits, plus a Turbobooster, a Bubble Bum and 2 Mifolds. I'm boostered out! I was hoping these would get us through until we don't need boosters anymore!

Just to give an update on the saga: The dealer said he could remove the headrests and the salesperson would pay for it. They removed the headrests, but then the service manager said he did not feel comfortable with it because if an adult rode in the car it would not be safe because the headrests cannot be easily replaced. So they said they would order Mercedes boosters seats which would fit the car. They said if they did not fit they would pay for us to order new ones. We came home and looked up the Mercedes ones and I don't think they will fit. They're called a Kidfix, which I think it made by Britax. I couldn't find the user manual but the Mercedes website says they are not compatible with her car. So we are going tomorrow to see if we can get a Clek Oobr. Can a tech confirm if we are correct that the headrest needs to be against the headrest, but a gap between the back of the seat and the car seat is ok? After all this, I just want to be sure we're doing things correctly!

I'm not a tech but the manual clearly states the Oobr can have a gap as long as it is latched in and has contact at the top.

Thanks! That's how I read it as well. Fingers crossed they fit. My mom is going to try and get one tomorrow to make sure.
