Question Car seat expiration

I live in Illinois but just purchased a car seat from someone off craigslist in Missouri. I do not have small children but babysit and didn't realize car seats expire. I looked at stamp on back of Eddie Bauer car seat and it's stamped 2003. I can't find any stamp with actual expire date. Is it illegal to sell an expired car seat? Do I now need to throw away this seat and take my loss or can I hold the seller responsible? Thank you so much for your time!

That seat expired in 2011. Unfortunately, I think you're going to have to take the loss on this one and use it as a learning experience. Car seats are the one baby gear item that is super important you buy new or from someone you trust with a child's life.

There are some really good options out there that are pretty reasonable that we can steer you towards if you let us know how big the kids you'll be watching are. You could get a seat as low as $40 brand new, depending on your needs. We'd love to help you out.
