Portable, lightweight seats for young people over 40"?

Hello everyone,

I bought an Evenflo Tribute LX Convertible Car Seat and then realized the height limit is 40". Both my kids are close to that height and will probably exceed it in a few months.

I purchased it mostly for a trip - a flight and subsequent rental car. I had figured I'd buy one for each kid, since they are so light and easy to transport.

I'm just wondering if ther are some good lightweight, easily portable options - that fit well on a plane - for children that are taller than 40".

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you looking for a forward facing seat or a rearfacing seat? How much do your kids weigh?

Sorry folks, and thanks for the replies. I fell off the radar for a few days. Kids are 4 and 5 yo, 30 and 33 lbs. I would prefer a seat that can be RF, though I could live with FF for a short trip.

In the meantime I got a couple GoGos and find that they make transporting the heavy Diono Radians that we already have pretty easy, so I will probably go with those.

If you don't mind lugging the radians, they install beautifully on an airplane forward facing. Rearfacing is unlikely to work on the plane with the radians but dynamics are different on a plane and it doesn't bother me to forward face on a plane past 2.

As for seats that go over 40 inches- I believe most Graco seats allow the child to be any height as long as the child's head is an inches below the shell or handle. The Contender might work well for you.

Thanks for your help with this. I was planning on going FF for the plane. I realize with the Radians I will have to take off the bottom part (unsure what it is called) for FF and then re-attach it for RF in the car.
