Canada 2 carseats and an adult passenger. Are 5 seaters an option?

We are looking for a new car and prefer to go with an SUV over minivan.

We need a car that can transport 3 adults and 2 kids - our eldest will be 32 months when the second is born. I want to RF the eldest until max of the seat (likely 4) so we'll have a bucket and convertible or 2 convertibles for a while yet.

We have looked at 7 seaters but I'm wondering if there are any 5 seaters that would be wide enough for an adult to comfortably sit in the back with the 2 carseats? Our current compact hatches are definitely NOT.

Maybe a giant full sized Truck based one like the Tahoe? It's got roughly 6 inches on say an Accord, which I can tell you that (and the Camry/Lexus ES) is way too cramped for 2 car seats and an adult.

It depends on the car seats and the adult. A small adult can definitely fit next to a couple of very narrow car seats in just about any vehicle. An adult with very wide shoulders and/or hips may have a tougher time.

Are you considering new car seats, too? What car seats do you have now? We could recommend narrow ones that work in most vehicles. If you're really interested in a 5 seater, someone here may know what works and what doesn't, or you could order from a place with easy returns and take your car seats to dealerships for test drives (which may or may not actually involve driving the vehicle.)
