We are considering purchasing a 2016 Toyota Highlander for our family, but have doubts about the safety of installing two car seats side-by-side in the second row. The dealer says it's safe, but there is a warning on page 77 of the owner's manual that states that some restraint systems may render the adjacent seat belt unsafe in the second and third rows. Also, the Car Seat Lady has published warnings that you can't safely install seats in the P and C second row... all of which makes us nervous about having two car seats adjacent to each other in the second row.
I have two questions:
Can you safely install car seats in the C and D second row positions?
How much can we actually trust the dealer for accurate information about what is safe in terms of car seat installation? If they say it's safe, should we take them at their word?
