Hi, looking for some advice.
I will be traveling with DD (5y 7m+ at time of travel) on a plane, and do not wish to drag her Frontier 90 or Frontier 85 on the plane with us. We do need a restraint system at our destination since we are renting a car.
My DD weighs 39 pounds without shoes, just a pound shy of the recommended 40 pound minimum weight for a booster seat.
I purchased a Britax Parkway SGL to use in highback mode at our destination in a rental car. After reading positive reviews of it, I liked that it uses a LATCH system to keep the seat in place, and that it has a Secure Guard that prevents submarining. I also liked that it provides some side impact protection, and some wings to lean on in case she falls asleep. For travel, it is very attractive. It weighs 10 pounds vs. the 25 pound Britax Frontiers and, I can keep the back separated from the seat to simplify packing and for ease of portability.
Is there any reason that using the SGL on vacation (or for the occasional carpool) would place my daughter at undue risk? At home she is in a 5 point harness in the Frontiers. I have done a lot of digging on the internet but haven't been able to figure out what significance 40 pound minimum has for booster seat use. If the risk is submarining, the SGL has the clip to prevent that. Is there anything about the physics of the 40 pounds that I am not understanding?
Thanks for any insight.
