Hi! I was wondering what the best way to compare the safety of different chairs is? Is there a good resource that discuss additional add ons that exceed regular guidelines? Looking to buy a chair and would like to see some information to compare!

Hello and welcome! Assuming that you are in the US, then you'll want to get a car seat that has passed US safety standards. Beyond that, we don't have much in the way of ratings that compare the safety of different seats. Some companies have added features to their seats that they say adds to the safety, but there is no way to know 100% for sure that a given feature will help your child to fare any better in a crash. What we do know is that children are very safe when they are *correctly* using a car seat that is appropriate for their age and size. And we also know that rear facing (for children who are small enough) is safer than forward facing.

We can help more if you tell us what child(ren) you are shopping for, the child's age/weight/height (and shirt size can help), what car you drive, your budget, and any special concerns that you have. :)

Yeah, we have no safety info other than that all seats on the market pass the same testing, and whatever the manufacturers claim about additional safety benefits. Of course they ALL claim that their seat is the safest. ;-)

But there are definitely some seats that are difficult to use, or aren't a good value because they're outgrown quickly. In contrast, there are seats out there that are easier to use for the majority of people and long-lasting. And the safest thing is to correctly install your seat and correctly use it every time.

So with some more info we can steer you toward the right seat(s) for your situation!
