illegal seats

I know Canadian and European seats are illegal to use, but I can't find a link or anything that states that, I have a debate with a person that got a seat from eBay and it is from Poland and she doesn't think it's illegal, so, I need some links!

I believe any seat that hasn't passed US testing is illegal unless there's a Dr note on why you child needs an imported seat.

Most states will have a law that states "a child of x years and x pounds must ride in x seat meeting FMVS (federal motor vehicle something or other). A foreign seat wouldn't meet the letter salad because it didn't have that specific test.

You would need to look up the specif state's car seat laws to get the wording.

I know my God-daughter had an imported seat for awhile because they weren't sure if she had ribs on half her body (she was adopted internationally) so the Dr wanted her in a chest clipless seat. After they found out her ribs were there but inverted and she outgrew her seat the Dr just had her use a normal seat. I've seen a few other instances where a Dr would write a note like that. But just buying a seat on eBay I can't see that happening.

Yes, you'd need to find the text of the law for your state. Most will say something about children needing "federally approved" car seats, or something along those lines.
