Visiting child with trisomy 8 mosaicism

Hi, all. My foster nephew will be visiting us over Christmas and I'm concerned about car seats. In the UK, he has a special seat, but my family won't be able to travel with it and I'm hoping to not have to buy a really expensive seat here (TX, USA) for just 2 weeks. We have a spare convertible seat up to 75lb and hoped to use that. The little boy is 4 years old, but small for his age and very frail looking. He can't walk or crawl, but shuffles on his bottom. Do you think he'd be OK in an ordinary convertible seat? If so, RF or FF?

A traditional convertible would probably be fine. He may have a special seat in the UK just because they don't have many seats that RF or harness as long as ours. If he fits, I'd probably put him RF. If not, FF would be acceptable if he meets the minimum size requirements. He may need a seat that is relatively reclined if he FFs. What seat do you have already?

Can you please post a pic or name of the seat you have to help us better determine the weight limits. There are no seats that come to mind that have a 75# weight limit, so having accurate limits may be helpful.

I agree that we need to know what seat it is, because you may be mistaken about the harness weight limit.

A small, frail 4yo would ideally be rear-facing, but that depends on whether he still fits in the seat you have.

Sorry - you're all correct. I was misremembering: We have two different seats: the Peg Perego Convertible Premium Infant to Toddler Car Seat (up to 45lb RF and 65lb FF) and the Britax Marathon 70-G3 Convertible Car Seat (up to 40lb RF and 70lb FF). The child is probably around 30lb, but I'll obviously confirm that with my sister. I'm confident we have options for FF or RF based on height and weight limits, though.
