Volvo compatibility with tall FF seats?

I need to decide shortly whether to replace my 2012 Volvo XC70. In the next few years, the kids will be going into FF harnessed/combination and HBB seats. I am concerned that there may be compatibility issues with the tallest seats due to the fixed headrests. There seem to be mixed opinions on the web. Specifically, I would probably initially buy Pinnacle 90s but might later want to consider some of the newer HBBs (e.g. Cybex Qfix, RodiFix, Kiddy Cruiserfix.) I think that the headrest issue is similar on most Volvo's - i.e. S60, XC90. Just wondering if anyone has experience installing Frontier 90s/Pinnacle 90s, FR85s, or the other HBB's in Volvo's? If this is a major issue, I might consider an Outback specifically because it does have adjustable/removable headrests.

We have a frontier 90 in our XC90. I have installed it behind the passenger seat as well as in the middle seat. There haven't been any issues so far with interference with the vehicle headrests and my child is in the 97th plus percentile for height at 4 yrs old. I have also installed in the smaller Volvo SUV with no issues when we used one as a loan vehicle.

My parents have a volvo XC60 and a S80. I am not a car seat expert, but the Frontier 85's we have worked great with their cars. The only hard point was getting the tether through the headrest in the S80.

Finding booster seats to work with their cars was really annoying. The Frontier 85's were too heavy for my Dad to switch between Volvos. After much research we got the Max Cosi Rodifix for my 7 year old. It is expensive, but a great seat that seems to work well with volvos. You can easily adjust the height so my 5 year old can ride in town in it. DS's even have fallen asleep in it and they stay in position.

The Evenflo Amp had the best curve for a booster with a headrest but it broke and you could not adjust the height.

ETA: I think I really would research the built in boosters and their safety if your children will be going in boosters. I feel that they operate more like a low back as you don't have the wings. I cat recall if somewhere on the Volvo site I saw they made wings that attached for the booster or just a cover for the bottom part. However, if it was just as safe, you would save yourself a lot of hassle looking for a booster to work with the headrest.

I have a volvo and its a pain to find high back booster seats that work. Especially any for a reasonable price that actually have foam in the headwings. Turbo boosters are a no go. Vivos are kind of ok but aren't made anymore. Neither is very tall. The Evenflo Maestro works in all back seating positions assuming I have the middle headrest all the way up so the carseat fits under it.

Until 2 months ago, I had a 2002 XC70. The seats of the newer ones don't look like they've changed at all, even the headrests. I looked at newer ones when I wanted to sell mine back in May.

At any rate, we had an Evenflo Secure Kid for my younger son and didn't have any problems with it. I've also used a Cybex Xfit, Harmony folding travel booster, and Evenflo high back booster. Yes, the headrests pushed their headrests forward a little bit, but personally, I didn't think it was that big of a problem. There wasn't a huge gap. We did find that a backless was a bit easier, b/c of the shoulder belt routing.

I really wouldn't decide against the Volvo XC70 b/c of needing to use 2 forward facing carseats or boosters in it. I can think of other reasons why you may prefer the Subaru, but I really loved that Volvo! And when I don't have 3 little kids riding with me anymore, I may wish to go back to a Volvo!!!! :)
