Convertible seat for big/tall baby

Looking for a new car seat for my big 8 month old. She's already 23lbs and 28 inches. We have a True Fit and Radian for our 3yo, she's 33lbs and 36 inches. Not sure if we should get 2 more Radians or something else. We have a Mazda 3 and a FJ cruiser if that helps.

Thanks!

I like both of them. I mostly use the True Fit, as it's the seat in my car. My ODD is now FF. I did find the True Fit big when it was RF once she hit 22lbs because of the added head piece. I don't use the Radian as much because it is in my husband's vehicle. I like the low sides on the Radian RXT, I find it easier to place her into the seat, as she is higher in the FJ.

My concern is that while I don't mind spending the money for a Radian, I'm worried my DD will outgrow it in height. She just tuned 3. Or is that a non issue?

After doing some more research, I wonder if I should get FF/booster seats like the Nautilus or britax frontier for my oldest and use the seats I already have with YDD.

What's your budget? At the lower end, you can get a couple Surerides (also called Titan65 if you can dig them up at Walmart -- out of stock most places). Those will work for either child and last until booster age (my big 7yo fit at 63lbs). On the high end, you could get, say, a Foonf or Fllo and a Frontier. Use the True Fit & Frontier FF and Foonf & Radian RF.

Is there any chance of having to fit 3-across in either vehicle?

How much room does your daughter have between her shoulders and the top slots in her seats? Torso height matters more than overall height. Your two "risks" with the seats you have are your daughter outgrowing the harness height FF and your son outgrowing the 35lb RF limit on the TF. So my suggestion would be to try to cover both bases by getting at least one high RF limit convertible and making sure both new seats have high FF harness heights.

I would probably pass down the Truefit and the radian, and buy two harness to booster seats for your 3 year old. Or, if you found the Truefit too big rearfacing, pass down the radian and use the Truefit and a harness to booster forward facing, and them perhaps purchase another Radian or other high weight/height seat (Fllo, foonf, etc) for your little one.

I would do this. I'm not sure how long a TrueFit is going to last for a 23 pound 8 month old, you'll likely need a higher weight convertible anyway at some point.

Thank you for your suggestions. Will keep the Truefit for older DD and used the Radian for the baby. I decided to go for a Evenflo Sureride (go a great price with price matching and using Sears points), figured I would get dedicated booster when the time came. Not quite sure what the second seat will be. Unfortunately we don't have the budget for a Floo or foonf.
