I occasionally watch my friends little one (currently 1 month, ahhh, adorable newb squishiness) and she's in a bucket. Parents only have one base and it gets left in their vehicle. So if I have to take us somewhere (not likely, but I want to be prepared) I'd have to do a baseless install with a locking clip ('92 Explorer, l/s belts don't lock). My oldest is booster training in an Amp behind the driver and my youngest is RF in his Radian in the lap only center position (which locks with a locking retractor, crazy). That leaves my last rear l/s open for extra riders.
Now that background info is out of the way, would you install the bucket next time they are over and draw with a sharpie on your belt where the locking clip goes so that any time you'd be watching her you could put the clip back quickly so that all you had to do is check for tightness if you needed to go somewhere?
