Britax car accident replacement policy?

My SIL was rear ended on Friday. Her two were with my mom. I can't remember if the seats need to be replaced after an accident or what their policy was. Her car was drivable with some visible damage.
She had a Frontier in booster mode and a older Britax Boulevard.

Different manuals say different things - it's going to depend entirely on what the manual says for those specific seats. Unless Britax has retroactively applied minor crash criteria for non-replacement to all of their seats, but I have not heard that.

Seats should always be replaced after an accident. No matter the circumstances. This is a standard issue which will be taken care of by the insurance company.

That's not true that it's a standard issue taken care of by insurance companies. Our insurance company follows the NHTSA replacement criteria and will not pay for seat replacement unless the collision meets that criteria. No matter what the car seat manual says.

It would be nice if there was a consistent policy amongst Insurance companies in North America, but unfortunately that's not the case.

When we had a minor accident we had the Diono Radian and Recaro Vivo replaced per their manuals. I believe their wording was "any crash."
We did not have the Britax Frontier 85 replaced. The accident was indeed very minor and met all the criteria.
Our insurance company "took our word for it" but I was prepared so show them info from manuals.
They mentioned they were taken aback at the prices of our seats that we were replacing! But they did replace them!

Besides not being standard policy among insurance companies, it's not even standard policy amongst car seat manufacturers. There are several seats that done require replacement after a minor crash (car could be driven away, no airbags deploy, no injuries, no damage to the closest door).

In reality, some crashes exert less force than making a hard stop or hitting a speedbump fast. Britax is typically one that doesn't require replacement in ALL circumstances.

I thought that was across the board for Britax seats, but since a PP said it's not, it would depend on the particular seat. (I could swear the Frontier and Boulevard follow the minor-crash guidelines.)

What state is she in?

I think they do now but older versions may or may not have that in the manual. Or it's entirely possible it IS across the board for Britax seats, but in Canadian manuals at least some spell out the minor crash criteria and some do not.

FAQ

Q. Are the SafeCells a replaceable part?A. No, they are integral to the seat design and cannot be replaced. Consumers should follow the user guide recommendation to discontinue use of a child seat that has been in a moderate or severe crash.

Q. Can I continue to use my child seat after it has been involved in a crash?A. Transport Canada states that a child seat should be replaced if it has been involved in a crash, even if your child was not riding in the seat at the time of the crash.
