Seatbelt locking, can't buckle booster

There was a thread from a few years ago that was never resolved - and I am having the same problem as this guy! When my DD tries to buckle into her highback booster, the belt sometimes is locked, and she can't unlock it to buckle herself in. It can't be retracted enough to unlock without unthreading it from the shoulder guide.

"The seat belt locks automatically until it is fully contracted into the seat....
When I say locked, I mean you cannot pull the slack out until it has been reset to the starting position, but my boosters do not allow it to get retracted enough to get to that starting position. The result is you cannot pull it out."

I was wondering if there is a fix? Perhaps some sort of way from keeping the belt from retracting too far as a default position - (sort of like a locking clip or something). That way there is always enough slack for her to get in to buckle?? I can't think of a way to make it work without compromising the retracting that is required for the belt to sit retracted just the right amount.

It sounds like she is pulling too much slack out. I would work with her on pulling less out so that it doesn't lock.

Hm- yes we occasionally have that problem, but mostly the belt gets locked flush against the booster seat before she attempts to pull it, and no slack can be pulled at all. I am not sure what causes this.

Probably the last time she used it, she pulled it too far out. Then rode with it locked against her. You're only noticing it when she goes to use it the next time.

Agree that it's happening when she buckles herself in, but you may not always be aware of it.

If I realize it's happened, I do try to go ahead and get it out of the shoulder guide and around the armrest before it goes all the way back in and then is harder to fix it.

But the main thing is reminding my DD not to pull it out too far. It was definitely worse when she was in the Frontier in my car in booster mode b/c it's bigger than her other boosters.
